Rite Aid...so pitiful. - 11-17-2007, 11:30 AM

Has anyone noticed the "Open 24 Hours" banner CVS hung, and Rite Aid's pathetic attempt at competing with CVS by hanging their lame banner "CVS Prescription Customers Welcome," at the 8th Avenue locations? It's like the Hatfield's and McCoys. Hilarious.

How sad for Rite Aid! I mean, at least here in Chelsea, they're always out of stock, the lines are always too long with not enough cashiers at peak hours, etc.

From personal experience, I used to have my Rx's at Rite Aid when they first opened. But, after they totally screwed up my Rx's time and time again, I immediately switched over to CVS and haven't looked back since. Their pharmacists at the time were horrible and had no clue. Don't know if much's changed since then, but I certainly won't take any chances on that front.

Are they that desperate, as to have to embarrass themselves by practically begging for customers?

Jeez!

Actually, the problem is that there are too many Duane Reade, CVS, and Rite Aids. They can't all survive. The Rite Aid on 7th avenue is very good with prescriptions and puts Duane Reade, right across the street, to shame. Look at what's happening to our "Starbucks on every corner". They are blaming it on people cutting back on luxury items. It isn't, IMO. There are a hundred Starbucks and other gourmet coffee houses in the Chelsea area. Add to that the fact that McDonalds and Dunkin Donuts have really good coffee these days for half the price of the so-called "gourmet" houses.

Roby:

With all due respect, no matter how many of this place or that place exists in our nabe, Rite Aid's problems stem from poor organizational skills and lack of good help. I'm not so sure, whether it has anything that much to do with how many of the same chain stores there are in this case.

They were here before CVS even came on the scene on 8th Avenue. They seem to have the same problems now, that they did when they first arrived; so....

On the flip side, I do however agree with you, that the enormous amount of one chain or another in a nabe is definitely a pervasive issue. I'm still waiting for something unique to show up here in Chelsea. But then again, hope DOES spring eternal.

We had the same problem with our local Duane Reade, which is why we switched to Rite Aid. The manager there is pretty good and their Senior discount program and online single check rebates have saved me hundreds in the past 2 years.

I'm really happy that "It" works for you. That's what matters. However, I'm not in the same situation, and still won't shop there, unless it is absolutely imperative. It's a matter of choice of course.

Happy days...

I agree CC! The Rite Aid on 24th street is just gross. The one on 22nd and 9th is even worse. Dirty, messy, badly stocked, with inattentive staff.

I like the CVS on 23rd too. They're clean, the pharmacists know what they're doing, and I do appreciate that they're open 24 hours. CVS in general seems to take better care of their stores than the other chains. And there's only one of them, so they're not oversaturating the neighborhood like some other chains we could mention...

I can hardly wait for the day this week when them tree-killers set up x-mas shop outside the new Rite-Aid (20th/8th) and take 99.9% of the sidewalk selling their dead merchandise, blowing their cigarette smoke in pedestrian's faces.

However, the lady pharmacist in the a.m. at Rite-Aid (22/9th) was very kind to me the other day and came out from her booth to show me the correct Tussin I needed.

My understanding is that the owner of the property for the Rite Aid on 24th & 8th s waiting for their lease to expire and then the property is to be developed into a condo building
