Thumbs up Burgers & Cupcakes Report - 01-19-2007, 11:28 AM

Last evening I got takeout on the way home from work:
I got a regular burger with 2 toppings - blue cheese and grilled onions.
And, of course, a cupcake: I had the Chocolate Raspberry Truffle cupcake, but more on that later.

I ordered the burger rare because y'know how takeout continues cooking as you walk home: this resulted in a perfectly done (well, to my taste!) burger. The bun was toasted, which I like, and the burger was a good size, plump and charbroiled on the outside, juicy inside. It came with a slice of tomato - good - and a piece of tasteless plain green lettuce - bad, but that's just me: I prefer iceberg lettuce. A big chunk of pickle was half-sour; OK I would have preferred sour. But they also included a red hot pepper on the side which I enjoyed. Oh, and I asked that they put a sufficient amount of blue cheese on my burger, even extra, and they didn't skimp on that... but I can't help but wonder how much they'd have put on if I hadn't mentioned it......

The young manager, Sean, was friendly, helpful & cool, and Nance, one of the owners, was there so I met her too.

And now, about that Chocolate Raspberry Truffle cupcake....
O.........M..........G ! ! ! Yes, it was orgasmic, And I'm not really a dessert person: most people prefer sweets while I'm drawn to savories. But this cupcake was so freakin' good, with fresh creamy icing - good thing I ate it in the privacy of my own home, because it was messy.. but in a good, finger-lickin' way!

Now about the prices:
The basic burger is $7.95, and I had 2 toppings, $1/each. So with the cupcake, this was a $15 meal. Seems a tad pricey side, but hey it's 2007, I should have expected that!

Bottom line: I had a yummy, satisfying, filling dinner, and yes I'll be back. Probably tonight: I want to try the turkeyburger with Brie.

Well, everyone, "see ya" next week: My office is moving to a new location a few blocks away, and today's the last day in the old place and they're shuttin' down the works in about an hour.

Hey Phyl:

What's up? Good luck with your move and stuff. Office moves are tedious at best but, I'm sure that you'll do great!

Anyway, Burgers and Cupcakes huh? Was waiting to hear if someone actually tried it out. I've passed by a couple of times, but I wasn't sure if they were actually open or not. That ginormous paper sign in the window led me to believe, that they were not. Not yet anyway.

Rasberry truffle? Turkey Burgers with Brie? OMG, OMG, OMG! Sounds amazing despite the price. Normal like you said for 2007. Glad you enjoyed. I know I will as well.

Based on the reviews here, I tried it.

At 9:00pm I ordered three burgers and 1 lemon merange cupcake (they were out of all other cupcakes!) for delivery. They said it would be here in 20 minutes because they "were having a slow night." At 9:39 i called to check on the order, and at 9:55pm it showed up....almost an hour later and I live two blocks away!

The burgers were cold by the time they got here! However, despite the temperature, my burger with blue cheese was VERY tasty (my boyfriend and friend were more critical of theirs). We all agreed the cupcake was yummy though.

I would give it another try, but learned that ordering delivery on the second day of service was not a good idea!

As Burgers and Cupcakes are two culinary proofs to me that God exists, and as I have a trip to Florida in March and one to Cancun booked for May, I have been avoiding. Sounds like I'm just gonna need to double up on the cardio at the gym and try this.

This is Chelsea--- it's not supposed to be Burgers, and Cupcakes-- is it? I though we were about tasty delight and protein shakes! ;-P

Seriously, though, with the opening of BRGR across the street from me (7th Ave btwn 26-27th) it's been a struggle like never before. Their burgers are quite yummy, their fries I could do without, but the Onion Hay is great! And the chocolate chip cookies they make? Wow... they warm them up before serving them!

Gee Dr. Ethan, you're my kind of Dr. for sure. I think you should always prescribe a good dose of carbs and fats to all your patients. They're horrible for the hips but great for the soul (in moderation of course.) LOL!

HI LEELEE.... Phyllis here again, yeah the same girl who started this thread.

I went back again and had the same cupcake experience you did: they were running low, and only had certain flavors. Well at least we know they are fresh! So I got a turkey burger this time, with brie. It was okay, but nothing to write home about, but then turkey burgers generally do lean towards the bland side.

Next day I came back for cupcakes only, and again the choice was limited. One was the same one I got on my first visit: the chocolate raspberry truffle. But the icing wasn't as good as the first time, and there was considerably less of it. I'll be back, though: I'd still like to try try the other kinds of burgers & cupcakes.

I was born and raised in Chelsea, love the neighborhood but am always looking for something new. I tried Burgers and Cupcakes last night and was sadly dissapointed. My boyfriend ordered a Cheeseburger and cheese fries, but the fries didn't have cheese, he asked for the burger to be cooked medium and it got to the house well done. I ordered a regular Hamburger with Avocado, but they forgot the Avacodo, I wanted a cupcake but they sold out at 8:30PM ...The order took long to arrive (50min) and i'm only one block away, I was even more dissapointed. I'll try them again but so far I think the best burgers in Chelsea are New York Burger, Co on 6th ave btwn 22nd-21st. Yummmmmm.
