Thank you, Southpaw. This is really interesting. By the way, in case anyone is interested -- usually the 10th pct. sponsors a three-day fair at this time with food and rides on West 25th Street. This year, though, they're not doing it. Anyone know why?

Hey Magpie,

I don't actually know why, but I suspect it has to do with the asbestos abatement that is occurring on 25th Street.

Southpaw, that was a very good guess, but no ceegar! I decided to check this out today with Security and would you believe the culprit is our dear sweet Mayor who won't issue a permit for a three-day fair because he says it would interfere with traffic. He would have allowed two-days, but the vendors didn't think it was worth all the work of setting up for only two days. So all these years we've been able to enjoy that fair but now he says we can't have it.
