I just went by 23rd & 10th and there were a ton of people waiting on line to get into one of the art galleries. Ok, so that wasn't too surprising - except for how many there were. Way more than could ever fit into the place.
But the surprising thing was up one block on 24th & 10th where there's a gas station - there were a ton of well dressed kids hanging out there too! Like maybe 50 or so. Anyone know what in the world was going on that was making those couple of blocks so popular tonight!?

I was around tonight too. There were several gallery receptions so the whole area was mobbed. Maybe it was another event. Oh, there was an HBO premiere on Clearview West as well.

I have no idea, but I will tell you one thing though...the traffic on 9th Ave. was as bad as it is on a Saturday night. I'm thinking, that it was a promo party or something. Maybe an opening night thingy.

Yeah, 23rd St going west between 9th and 10th was packed. Worse than rush hour!

Probably the WIRE
Correct, it was the "Wire", I'll ask some folks at HBO how the event went. I never knew about this show, after reading the reviews, it seems quite interesting.

I got absolutely hooked on the Wire watching it on On Demand this summer!!! I think it's still there if you want to check it out.
It is a terrific show- all about corruption and humanity in Baltimore. No one escapes scrutiny- the drug dealers and kingpins, the cops, the brass, the media, the guys down at the docks, the politicians, etc.
The Wire is one of the best things I've ever seen on TV. There is some violence, but only if it's intrinsic to the plot. Not a typical cop show- more a philosophical look at how we humans live and exist together.

I'm at HBO. Hehe. My friend does all the red carpet shows, so I'll see....I walked into one of those by accident - I was just trying to go go to the movies....

PS PHTP2 - if you like the WIRE check out the Corner, which was a short series by the same people.

Was The Corner the series about the Baltimore's inner city? With Charles S. Dutton and Khandi Alexander? If it was, I saw it and it's wonderful and very well done.

Hi Phpt2:
Loved it! Watched every episode. I wonder if they offer the series on NetFlix. I would love to see it again.

Yay, HBO love. That's cool. The Corner was great. Did anyone watch When the Levees Broke?

Hey I actually remember the first time I saw the HBO snow logo on TV. Right before the MTV spaceman.

I used to love the big HBO logo that used to across the screen kind of like a screensaver would with that big shooting star thingy that would careen through the "O." I used to love that graphic. It was like you were going through a vortex or something, or like a hologram. It was really cool. Jeez! That was like back in the 80's.
Groovy...

Scroll down to the middle of the page where it says "NY Premiere". There's a bunch of pictures from the premiere (right here in Chelsea, I think!). If you're a Wire freak like I am, these pics are a lot of fun- I wish I was there! Hey Vespa- any way you can let us know about these premieres, or anywhere we can find out beforehand?
They're also announcing that "The Wire" will come back for a fifth (yay!) and final :( season.

Huh, I dunno... usually those are top secret.
Talk about bumping into people. I bumped into Glynn Thurman on a flight to Vegas once to see ALI. And Andre Royo kinda hijacked my seat at another screening and I was tempted to bug out, but he was so cool about it that we ended up having a fun conversation later on. Anywho. I'm glad the show is coming back.
