I went to the L.T. Post Office yesterday and saw that they've changed their hours; new (official) opening is at 9:30 AM. When the old official opening was at 9:00 AM, they usually got around to opening the doors anytime between 9:05 and 9:15, regardless of rain, snow, sleet or freezing temperatures. What do you think that the new actual opening time be?
9:35 - 9:40?
9:41 - 9:45?
Later?

Can I just say that postal employees in New York, as well as Fed Ex employees (now that you've got me going SNAP), are the worst I've experienced anywhere. Post office people here are so SLOOOOWWWW and lazy and apathetic it's unbelievable. I know that's the stereotype, but in other places they're actually nice and seem to care. But not here.

And I gotta get in a quick word on Fed Ex - they're the absolute worst here. I've gotten into so many arguments with them because they simply didn't want to do their jobs. I've even been thrown out of their offices a time or two (they simply would not tolerate a customer pointing out what they had screwed up)! But whoever we had delivering on W 30th St. awhile back would never deliver overnight packages to me overnight. They would always come the second day. And they wouldn't leave a notice on my door that they had been by. I'd call Fed Ex and be infuriated when they told me he came by but I wasn't home! I work at home and I was always there when they were delivering something. So these guys would report that they had come by and that I wasn't home, when in fact they never actually came by, as was evidenced by the lack of a note on the door.

When I called to complain the girl would always ask for the number of the ticket they had left on the door and would never accept my answer that they had left no ticket! When I would demand a refund for the "overnight" portion of the bill they would say they'd have to investigate. And guess what their investigations ALWAYS showed? That they tried to deliver and I wasn't home!

I couldn't get my money back, but I did end up costing them money in the long run by never ordering anything to be shipped overnight again. I always ordered the cheaper second-day delivery after that. For some reason those always came on time.

FedEx is horrible! My last job we were contracted with them and it was hell to deal with all the staff from drivers to managers.

The Post Office is horrible! I can't believe they are cutting back hours in the morning when businesses depend on them.

A few weeks ago I had to complain to the one in person on W18th Str. that the carrier kept putting others' mail in my box even though it was obviously written APARTMENT #4 , not APT. # 22 - and this happened numerous times.
It's still happening! I also got mail to my apartment that was supposed to go to East Village. Makes me wonder what mail I am missing myself.

Bally is on my sh*tlist now too, they put up signs saying that they are cutting back on weekend hours from 8PM to 5PM (about 6 hours in total).
Where's the abatement?

whats even worse is that the post office on 8th Avenue and 31 Street have not bothered to get their computer fixed and they are using bells for next on line. This seems embarrasing as so many tourists use that particular post office.

Instead of fed Ex, try TNT, they have very competitive rates in general, to Europe especially (half what Fed Ex charges) and are professional and polite.

My personal experience with the London Terrace Post Office is that they are the nastiest, laziest, unfriendliest, least helpful P. O. workers among all the other NY post offices I've been to. They are the closest P.O. to where I live and they are so offensive, I make the trip to the main one on 8th and 33rd instead -- an obviously bigger trip for me but that's how much I cannot stand those P.O. people there.

I very rarely send CERTIFIED mail so I forget exactly how to affix the CERTIFIED forms to the envelope. I fill out the forms and I bring the envelope to them with the filled out forms and they either yell at me or insist I do it myself. They are the only P.O. office who treats me that way. I've mentioned it to the workers in the other P.O.'s who gladly do it for me and they have agreed with me that the L.T.P.O.'s attitude is totally unacceptable and shocking (especially from a small, neighborhood post office).

RE: '... least helpful P. O. workers..."

I assume that you use the word "workers" loosely - VERY loosely.

.....actually my original post had quotes around the word workers --- hmmm -- but, yes, you're right!

Aren't they losing money by not being open during times people have "free" before and after they work 9-5?
