TREE KILLED |
|
Aug 07, 2008 - 2:49 PM - by WaJa

Who or what killed the tall and mature honey locust tree on 8th Avenue between 19th and 20th Streets? It was in front of the American Apparel store. The mess is still there, and this is days and days after death!
Arboricide is a crime in NYC. Did anyone see anything? Has anyone called 311 about this?
If the... [Read More]

I have recently met many people who have gotten into PennSouth after 5 years on the list. I am coming up on being on the list 5 years. Am I close to being a cooperator? Why does the # of persons ahead of me on the list not look like I am close if I am? Any views?

New 8th Avenue Bike Lane |
|
Aug 01, 2008 - 2:42 PM - by W16thDenizen
|
Seems like our community board is not in favor of the new separated bike lane on 8th Avenue. Fortunately, the Transportation Department can push it through without their approval. Here's an article about it. I don't understand their argument against it. Maybe I'm missing something.

UNCLE NICK'S |
|
Jul 30, 2008 - 2:06 PM - by Phylicita

I've been going to Uncle Nick's on 9th Ave. for years, but the last time I visited I was very disappointed. It was clear that they changed drastically (chefs? recipes? management?). Still, I was thrilled when they opened an Uncle Nick's in our 'hood (29th & 8th Ave.) and couldn't wait to try it.
I called for a delivery on Sunday night when I returned from a busy... [Read More]

Lottery or Application Penn South |

Are there two different ways of applying to Penn South? Someone said you could bypass the regular application process through a Penn South lottery when those are offered. Does anyone know the difference between those two?

Time for more foot patrols? |
|
Jul 28, 2008 - 12:30 PM - by psammead
|
Curbed ran an item and photo today about vandalism on 22nd Street between 8th and 9th. I have pasted and linked it below.
Which brings up a growing concern of mine. I have lived in this area for more than 12 years now, and I think I have seen policemen on foot patrol maybe five times. Maybe I need to start going out more at 4am, but in general, there are certainly not enough cops... [Read More]

LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION |

Could we PLEASE make an unofficial rule that whenever a particular store, restaurant, business etc is mentioned on CCYB that we also give the address or an indication of where it's located (eg, "on 9TH between 23rd and 24th"). Remember, it's a big neighborhood and it's frustrating not to have any idea of exactly where places of interest are.

WEST ELM VS. MOTHER EARTH |
|
Jul 28, 2008 - 7:56 AM - by jbetters
|
Does anyone besides myself get disgusted from WEST ELM leaving their doors open allowing A/C to bellow out all day long? I've made comments to the staff twice this month, and both times i was told that leaving the doors open helps to bring in customers. Thats when I decided to bring back my coffee table and bed linens. Gotta' love the Williams Sonoma Corp.'s lack of interest in our environment.

Cheyenne Diner |

Jul 27, 2008 - 6:35 PM - by momjo

I was just reading today's NY times and on Page 3 New York Observed the journalist is writing about her father and the Cheyenne Diner. She is Stacy Torres who grew up mostly in Penn South. Many of you may remember her and her family. Her father is a doorman in London Terrace. Stacy and her sisters have grown up to be fine young women. I remember her hanging out in the circle park with her... [Read More]

POTTERY ON 19TH |
|
Jul 23, 2008 - 5:15 PM - by jbetters
|
i was wondering if anyone knew when the artist from the pottery making place in the middle of the block will hold there annual "sidewalk sale"?
Last summer I bought a bunch of AMAZING pieces (vases, cups, etc) from an artist named Jimmy Schack (his stuff sells at places like Takishimaya for a small fortune) for practically nothing. I'd appreciate any info!

help stop the fast food invasion of our neighborhood PART II |
|
Jul 21, 2008 - 4:33 PM - by kkeenan
|
Qdoba, the fast food mexican chain owned by Jack in the Box on 21st and 8th, is closer than ever to getting approval for a sidewalk cafe on 21st street. Even thought there are no other fast food restaurants with outdoor seating on residential blocks in Chelsea, The quality of life committee approved the application with stipulations at their last meeting.
Now there is a district... [Read More]
